The play Hamlet is about a prince who’s father was killed by his uncle. After killing his father his uncle became king of Denmark and married his mother. Old Hamlet’s ghost came back and told Hamlet how he died and how it was his uncle that poured poison in his ear. Hamlet wanted to get revenge on his uncle and started to act like he was going mad. As a result of acting mad he started taking out his feelings on his love interest Ophelia and pushed her away. He called her names and said some mean thing to her. Before Ophelia’s brother left for France to go to school he warned Ophelia about Hamlet. Her father Polonius also warned her. When everyone in the kingdom started to think Hamlet was going mad the king had an idea to send Hamlet to England. Hamlets mother wanted to talk to him and see if she could get him to say why he was going mad. Polonius was hiding behind a curtain and Hamlet killed him thinking he was King Claudius. When he pulled back the curtain he realized that he made a mistake and killed the wrong man. After Hamlet killed Polonius Ophelia went mad and ended up killing herself. Laertes Ophelia’s brother was back and out for revenge to kill Hamlet because he had caused his families death. Laertes and King Claudius made a plan to poison Hamlet during a fencing battle. During the battle Hamlet got sliced with the poisoned sword and he took the sword and cut Laertes with it too. The queen ended up drinking a cup of poison meant for Hamlet and died. Hamlet forced the King to drink the poison and stabbed the king with the poisoned sword. In the end, all the main characters died but Horatio and he was tasked with telling the story of Hamlet. In the end Forinbras comes to the seen and becomes king. From this unit I learned instead of acting on emotion one should act on rationality and think about the actions before they are played out.
“Murder most foul”- Ghost is the quote I picked because in today’s society because murder still has consequences. Today if someone murders another person they go to prison and are considered a bad person. To be honest I feel Murder has more of a punishment in today’s society than it did back then. There is a whole process today. First there is a trail then there is a sentencing. Back then I feel like one person decided the fate of the person in trouble.
Madness by Ruelle reminds me of Hamlet because the song says “I’ve seen that look in your eyes” and in the comic the way the draw hamlet you can clearly see that he is actually mad or very good at acting. Through out the play you can see Hamlet’s madness and others talk about it and want to know why he is going mad. The song says “Nowhere to hide from all this madness” which makes me think of the play because everyone is seeing Hamlet’s madness and he’s not hiding it he wants everyone to see.
